Wynn will be 2 weeks old tomorrow. She’s sleeping on my chest as I type this!! For some reason of late, I’ve been seeing both sides of things. For instance, it’s hard to believe that Wynn is 2 weeks old already, but at the same time, it feels like she’s been here for a lot longer!! (In a good way!) Also, it’s hard to believe that Lindsay and I were married WITHOUT kids. I know it happened, because we have pictures to prove it. I also know that life AND marriage is so much better having Sawyer and Wynn around. Lindsay and I laugh so much at what our kids do, and I also think we both appreciate what the other does for our kids, and the sacrifices that we both make for our family. Raising kids is a lot of hard work, but it’s given me some of the most fulfilling feelings I’ve ever experienced in my entire life.

This post certainly wasn’t a brilliant one, or full of witty zingers, but I did what I could cause I’ve got to get this little girl in my lap to bed!!

Wynn is here!!! We are so happy to introduce our little girl to the world. She was born 9/6/07 at 2:37pm. She weighed in at 7lbs. 14oz. and she was 21 inches long. She is eating VERY well, and does not hesitate to tell us when she is hungry. She is also sleeping well and is having dirty and wet diapers, which is a GOOD thing. She is just the cutest little girl ever and she already has me wrapped around her finger. I can not wait to see her smile at me for the first time and to have Father/Daughter events with her. For some reason that is something that I’m really looking forward to. Lindsay is doing great, and she did an amazing job delivering Wynn. She held off on the epidural for a while and then only pushed twice and out came my little daughter Wynn. Be posted for pics.

Today is Tuesday. We plan on inducing on Thursday, if Wynn hasn’t come before then. And that got me thinking. This will be the last time that it’s “just Sawyer” for forever. I never even thought that I would have this feeling. It’s not one of sadness, but just one of thankfulness really. Lindsay and I have had such a great time with Sawyer for these past 27 months, and we have cherished that time SO much. We know it’s not over with him of course, but it’s definitely going to be different, and that’s just a weird feeling.

We are SO very excited however to introduce our little girl into this world. She already has me wrapped around her finger, and I haven’t even met her yet. I can’t wait to see her face and to hold her!!! I realize the importance of a Father/daughter relationship, and am really excited to get it started with Wynn. I am ready to show her off to the world, and are so thankful for God’s little gift to us. We will keep everyone posted with pics as soon as we can get them on here.

Well, sometimes Sawyer makes claims that aren’t true. For instance, earlier today he said “Vivian is over there.”, and pointed outside my car window, while we were driving, and into an open field of grass. Obviously, Vivian (our dog) was not in the open field of grass, but instead she was in her crate at home. I had to inform him that he was in fact, wrong. He also tends to answer “Yes” or “No” to questions when he really means the opposite. When you ask him if he wants M&M’s, and he says “No”, you know that he either wasn’t really listening to the question, or misunderstood it.

But, this evening he said something that was not only accurate, but funny. Sawyer and I had just gotten back from swimming, and he was in his pajamas, all ready for bed. Lindsay had been running errands all afternoon and was on her way home. So when he asked where she was, and I told him that she was coming. Then, about 5 minutes later he told me that Lindsay was coming, and then he said, “Mommy’s tummy’s coming.”. I turned around to see if I heard him right and he was grinning ear to ear and started laughing as I turned around. He then asked me to say it, I did gladly (haha), and he cracked up again. Kids are funny.

Wow, it is getting HOT. For those of you who DON’T know, Lindsay was born in the hottest summer in the history of man…at least in Texas. That year was 1980. So, when we first found out we were pregnant, all she talked about was how hot she was going to be because our baby was due in September….so she would basically be spending her 3rd trimester in the hot summer months. Well, the prayers worked, and God listened, because our summer so far has been unusually mild…until this last week. I didn’t go so far as Andrew did back in the day and fry an egg on my dashboard, but I could have, and that’s what counts. So here’s a pic of how some of Sawyer’s neighbor-friends and I spent one evening.

Well, like somebody famous (but I can’t remember who) once said, “I’m baaaaaaack!!”. Sorry, dear many many readers of mine, for taking such a long hiatus from my blog. I hope I haven’t offended anyone, or made them change their opinion of me. I’d like to place the blame on my previous post by saying I wanted to leave Charlie’s “farewell” post up to honor him longer….so if that’s believable, then that’s the reason.

Anyway, I relate this current feeling to that of one I had in college. (Back-to-back prepositional phrases, check THAT out! I don’t care if it’s not grammatically correct, it’s funny.) And that is getting so far behind in something (or studying) that you feel so overwhelmed that you don’t even bother starting…because you don’t even know WHERE to start, and you couldn’t possibly catch up. Well, I vow to not let that happen to my precious blog. Besides, I’ve been “tagged” by Jamison (unbelievable) so I feel like it’s my duty to fulfill my contractual agreement as a fellow blogger to fight through this request…I’m just not sure where to start!

Charlie was my dog. I got him in the 8th grade when I was 13. I remember my sister, Jill, heard of a Shih Tzu dog that was kept up in a house all day, and so she sort of rescued him and brought him home for my brother James and I one day. I remember where I was when I first saw him and thought, “That’s not a Shih Tzu!”. Supposedly he had papers saying he was full-bred, they must have been forged. Regardless, he was ours, and he was a cool dog. He was a year and a half when we got him, and that was in Junior High School. I brought Charlie down to College Station my Junior year and he lived in the duplex with us, and then followed us over to the Ayrshire house, where he lived with me for two years. When Lindsay and I got married, he lived with us in our first apartment off Greenville Ave in Dallas, and then to our first house in McKinney where he spent the last three years of his life. Charlie was a cool dog, laid back, very friendly, and easy-going. He didn’t run and fetch anything, but he didn’t need to. He had a great personality, and you could read him like a book. You knew when he was hungry, needed to go outside, or wanted water. It was so easy to get him riled up, and he loved to shred paper with his mouth. It was so funny watching him do that! He was great with kids and was just a great dog and friend. My last memory was at my parents’ house when I dropped him and Vivian (our other dog) off before we left on our trip. I was trying to round him up to go in his crate, and as he walked by Henry’s bed (my parents’ dog) he smelled something. His sight was fading, but his sense of smell was still VERY good. He rooted around in Henry’s bed and found a bone and snatched it up. Charlie always loved bones and treats and would spin in a circle every single time I got the treat bag out, and then sit there still until I gave it to him. So, he grabbed this bone and walked through the kitchen, and to the dining room and right into his cage without much coercing at all, with the bone in his mouth. I remember laughing at him cause that was not typically something that he would do. And that is my last memory of him. The next morning he had what we think was a stroke, and was not getting any better by the day’s end so we had to put him down. I can see the Lord’s hand in even this because he was at the clinic, where my Dad had taken him the night before, when this happened. So, they were able to put an IV in him right away and monitor him much more quickly than if he had been home. So, it was appropriate timing, and it’s best that I didn’t have to see my dog in that state I think. I wanted to write this for those of you who knew Charlie and who didn’t know him, and as a little piece to remember him by.

That sounds obvious, but looking back on it, it’s a lot cooler than I thought it would be. Especially this year. I don’t know if it’s because I’m more “used” to being a Dad, or if my love for my son has grown that much more over the last year. I would say that Father’s Day is definitely better than a Birthday, or even an Anniversary. I’d rank it right up there with Christmas in fact. It was just a great day and being a dad is even better than I thought it would be, and it gets better and better every day.

Don’t you guys remember those radio commercials in College Station that shouted “Hurricaaaaaaane Harry’s” about 4 times per commercial and that aired about 50 times a day?? Aggie Ninety-Siiiiiiiiiiix. Anyway, recently I took my youth group kids to Hurricane Harbor, formerly Wet ‘N Wild, formerly White Water. I have pretty much decided that I will never go to Six Flags again (owned by the same people as HH, and similar in their characteristics). I guess I’m getting old, but I’m tired of the lines, I’m tired of the heat, the cost to get in, the price of concessions, and the over-abundance of young kids doing older people things in public, etc. So, that being said, when it was my month to schedule two Youth Group events for May, what did I do?? I organized an event at Hurricane Harbor for the kids a couple weekends ago…the water-park equivalent to it’s evil step-sister, Six Flags.

Somehow, a few people that I work with figured out my future endeavor that was right around the corner, and strongly urged me to cancel, or at least reconsider, and these comments were coming from people who actually LOVED Six Flags. I expected the worst, and hoped for the best, oh, and crossed my fingers, and did a little dance. I want to mention, that the Dallas area has been pounded with rain, almost daily as of late, and it doesn’t seem to let up. That little dance I mentioned earlier…it was a rain dance of sorts…and it didn’t work. The day we went to HH was the one and only clear-sky day that we’ve had in over a month. Anyway, to conclude my short story, the kids had a great time, and so did I. What a great place that HH, and check the smiles on these kids faces to prove their happiness!! Well, I can’t figure out how to attach the pic…..
